Welcome back to this new edition of Gov CIO Outlook !!!✖
DECEMBER - JANUARY 19GOVERNMENT CIO OUTLOOKFor example, AI-driven platforms can analyze traffic patterns to determine the fastest routes for emergency vehicles, predict equipment failures before they occur, and optimize resource allocation during disasters. Moreover, AI-enhanced augmented reality (AR) applications will allow first responders to visualize hazards, locate victims, and identify safe entry and exit points in real-time. These advancements will significantly reduce response times and improve operational effectiveness, ultimately saving lives. The integration of AI into FirstNet is not just an enhancement--it is a necessity. As threats to public safety become more complex, the ability to process and act upon real-time data will be critical. The PSBTA remains at the forefront of this technological evolution, advocating for policies and funding that will ensure AI-driven capabilities are fully integrated into the FirstNet ecosystem.Safeguarding the 4.9 GHz Spectrum for Public SafetyAnother major priority for the PSBTA is the continued protection of the 4.9 GHz spectrum for public safety use. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently reaffirmed the importance of this spectrum, which, when combined with Band 14, creates a `force multiplier' effect--enhancing the speed, reliability, and coverage of emergency communications. Losing access to this spectrum would significantly hinder public safety agencies' ability to leverage advanced broadband applications, particularly those powered by AI and IoT technologies.A Call to Action: Join the PSBTA in Securing FirstNet's FutureThe continued evolution and success of FirstNet hinge on the support and advocacy of the entire public safety community. Reauthorization of the FirstNet Authority is not just a bureaucratic process--it is a mission-critical imperative that will determine the future of public safety communications in the United States. The PSBTA calls upon all disciplines within public safety--fire, EMS, law enforcement, emergency management, and beyond--to unite in this effort. By joining forces, we can ensure that FirstNet remains dedicated to first responders, that AI-driven advancements are fully realized, and that the 4.9 GHz spectrum remains protected for public safety use.Now is the time to act. Engage with the PSBTA, advocate for FirstNet's reauthorization, and help shape the future of public safety communications. Visit thepsbta.org to sign the petition for FirstNet's reauthorization. Together, we can build a smarter, more resilient, and more effective emergency response system--one that will continue saving lives for generations to come. Please consider saving the date and registering to attend the 2025 PSBTA Vision FirstNet Users Summit September 8th 11th at the Westin Indianapolis Downtown Hotel & Conference Center. Robust discussions with public safety thought leadership, industry leaders, and hands-on product demonstrations to include: customized workshops highlighting FirstNet cutting-edge innovations, products, and applications. https://vision.thepsbta.org/ Driven by a deep passion for public safety, we are committed to the success of FirstNet, which has already saved lives and will continue to do so in the future < Page 9 | Page 11 >
