November - 201919GOVERNMENT CIO OUTLOOKcommercial clients address their most difficult technical and business problems. Graves spent a part of her early career working as a systems engineer, working throughout the systems engineering lifecycle from requirements development to independent testing for large-scale systems. Leading with the intellectual curiosity of both Fannon and Graves' and their industry know-how, Nodi Solutions consistently strives to provide the best value from limited resources. "We don't come with a magic bullet to solve all the problems that government agencies face. Rather, we take a tailored approach for each of our projects. We work alongside our clients to understand their mission objectives and hurdles to treat every situation as a unique one," comments Fannon. To this extent, Nodi Solutions supported the original efforts to develop the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) and deliver cybersecurity workforce framework, categorizing and defining cybersecurity work across all sectors. The company has developed methodologies using the Framework to deliver a cybersecurity capability maturity model (CMM), multiple demand planning tools, and position description (PD) building and mapping tools. Nodi Solutions also developed capability indicators, which assist in identifying aptitude in cybersecurity. The firm has worked with multiple Federal, State, local, Tribal, and Territorial government and private sector partners to drive the adoption of the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework. At the U.S. Department of Energy, Nodi Solutions engaged in strategic planning and workforce development across 30 sub-offices. By understanding tactical priorities, leadership vision, and organization challenges, Nodi defined a clear organizational workflow based on the analyses of the agency's workforce and workload data. In another instance, Nodi Solutions provided technical assistance to emergency management programs in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the states, and multiple local communities. Nodi Solutions helped them with technical assistance, along with research, analysis, and document development. Graves says, "We combine our knowledge and technical skills to solve client's problems and in turn build long-term relationships."Nodi Solutions is currently poised to take up newer business opportunities that would allow them to continue expanding work with the government sector. On a concluding note, Fannon and Graves say, "We don't want to be a generalist in the technology startup space; rather we are perfectly positioned to become the specialist in what we do. So, for the next year or two, our focus will remain on executing projects around emergency management, cyber education, strategic communications, and building our support services in those areas."
