Waste management will become more sustainable as technological advancements become more prevalent.
Fremont, CA: Waste management systems have had challenges with environmental sustainability in the past. The United States produced 292.4 million tonnes of municipal solid trash in 2018, half of which was dumped in landfills. Despite the fact that there is still much space for improvement, the process has been greener over time, thanks in large part to technological advancements. Technology makes it simpler to collect, sort, and use garbage, and new tools and procedures are always being developed.

Some of the advancements that are leading to sustainable waste management are:
Pneumatic waste collection
Majority of cities and regions rely on fossil fuel-powered garbage trucks to accumulate garbage. Some regions have taken a different approach because this technology can be incompetent and cause pollution. Using a network of underground pneumatic tubes, they use vacuum suction to empty trash containers. Because pneumatic tubes are driven by air compressors, they use very less energy. There are no greenhouse gas emissions to worry about as there are no trucks involved.
Plasma gasification
Garbage-to-energy methods keep waste out of landfills while also producing comparatively green energy. Plasma gasification is one of the newest and most promising of these approaches. Plasma burns garbage to severe temperatures and turns it into useable gases like hydrogen in this process. Because this process generates hydrogen, it can be used as a long-term fuel source. Since plasma gasification is so new, it isn't widely used currently, yet its potential is enormous.
Smart waste bins
Several firms currently provide smart garbage bins with a variety of features. Many of them have sensors that identify trash levels and inform consumers when they're full. This data may be used to follow people's waste disposal practices and improve trash pickup schedules, resulting in lower fuel consumption. Some of these garbage cans have interactive panels that help consumers better manage their waste.
Fleet management systems
Technology also offers a path ahead for places that still rely on a traditional garbage collection system. Garbage collection can be improved with fleet management technology. It's handy to take the same route every day, but it's not necessarily efficient. Depending on the amount of traffic, the weather, and the amount of waste, different paths may be more or less practical. Drivers can change their routes to save time and cut pollution using fleet management systems.
